Bank of Marin

Ajeet (A.J.) Singh, Tiburon Branch Manager

Bank of Marin is known across our county for its philanthropic deeds and for its production of the annual “Spirit of Marin” awards.

Although it does do all this, it is first and foremost a bank and, for more than 30 years, it has been committed to helping build stronger local economies and communities.

As a leading business and community bank in the Bay Area, with 25 locations across seven Bay Area counties, they provide business and personal banking, commercial lending, construction financing and wealth management and trust services to individuals, privately held businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Commitment to the community has been one of their core values since they opened their doors in 1990. As part of this commitment, they welcome the opportunity to recognize local business people, community partners and their employees for their tireless generosity.

At their annual Spirit of Marin Awards, Bank of Marin works with all the Chambers of Commerce in Marin to honor the achievements and volunteer spirit of local businesses and business citizens, including Tiburon’s Hadley Construction as a 2020 Spirit of Marin honoree.

Bank of Marin employees consistently show their support of Bay Area nonprofits, with thousands of volunteer hours spent at more than 300 organizations. Even in 2020, bank employees found unique and virtual ways to continue that mission during the public health crisis, volunteering more than 4,000 hours and serving on more than 60 nonprofit boards. In their most recent annual giving campaign, Bank of Marin achieved 90% employee participation, supporting local nonprofits by raising nearly $70,000 in contributions.

In their current location at The Cove Shopping Center since 2012, Bank of Marin annually supports more than 30 nonprofits in Tiburon and Southern Marin with charitable contributions, including The Redwoods, Marin City Community Services District, Marin City Health and Wellness Center, Harbor Point Charitable Fund and GraceSigns.

Leading the Tiburon branch as its manager, Ajeet (A.J.) Singh also serves as the bank’s Sausalito branch manager, splitting his time equally between the two towns.

Growing up in Denver, A.J. had no idea he would go into banking. Just out of high school, he began to work for a small “mom and pop” convenience store with four locations. He eventually became overseer of all four stores, requiring him to get up at 4 a.m. each day. He graduated in 2007 from Colorado University at Denver where he majored in economics, but he continued to work for the convenience store.

After more than 12 years, he tired of rising each morning before sunrise and decided to look for a job that had regular – and more normal – work hours.

“I thought to myself, what jobs have 9 to 5 hours,” he says. “I was a math and graphic guy growing up, so I settled on banking.”

He started out as a teller at U.S. Bank, rising to branch manager, then became branch manager at BBVA, a Spanish bank in Denver. On a trip to San Francisco, he met his future wife, Shivani, while the two sat at a crowded bar in the city. That chance meeting began a four-year, long-distance courtship, made easier by a cousin who worked for an airline.

Married in 2019, A.J. applied for a job with Bank of Marin and became Branch Manager for both Tiburon and Sausalito in August 2019. His Assistant Branch Manager in Tiburon is Florette Eugene.

Because of the pandemic, A.J.’s honeymoon has been delayed, but the 38-year-old says once they can travel again, he hopes to spend a week or so in the Maldives with his bride. Currently, the two live in San Rafael.

During the pandemic, the Tiburon branch is open weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and follows strict rules including wearing masks, social distancing and wiping down with disinfectant after each customer visit.
